"I think the world of the people at Methodist," says Kim Vokal. "I could always feel them pulling for me." Nine years ago, Kim's three children were just 7, 3 and 5 months old when Kim was diagnosed with a rare and advanced choriocarcinoma, a cancer of the placenta that had spread to her brain, liver and lungs.
Gynecologic oncologist Peter Morris, MD, led the team that included ob-gyn Ann Sjulin, MD; radiation oncologist Randall Duckert, MD; surgical oncologist James Reilly, MD; and cardiothoracic surgeons Tracy Dorheim, MD, and Allen Graeve, MD.
Throughout Kim's difficult journey, she and her husband, Don, visualized cancer as the enemy, leaned on their faith and never gave up.
